Agita, 2023

Since I first started working on my Artibles, I’ve been wanting to make the artwork not just mobile, not just animated, but fully interactive. I finally found a relatively straightforward way to do that, carving the piece out of a block of raw HTML, SVG, CSS and Javascript, and creating my first interactive piece, Agita:

I’ve refined the prototype, flipping the plates “up” slightly as the disturbance comes closer. But I’ve also been able to make it even more interactive—you can now change the colors and other settings.

There is an invisible color palette icon in the top left of the artwork, and an invisible settings icon in the top right.

On a computer screen, if you mouse over these, they will be become visible and you can activate them. It’s a little trickier on an iPhone or other touch screen, but if you tap around the top left or the top right, they should pop up sooner or later.

By adjusting the colors and settings, it’s now possible to create a huge variety of images from this one piece!

The artwork should work on any device, but technology being what it is, some people have reported issues with some combinations of device and browser. If weird things are happening for you, please do let me know.

Now my next big technical challenge is to find a giant touch screen to display this work on!
